This fascinates me. This little plant, this Schlumbergera if you will, gets buds in November, every year. Month 11? Let’s show some flowers! But how on earth do they know? This plant is located in my living room so it can’t go like, hmm, it’s getting rather chilly, let’s show some color, shall we? If anyone has the answer to this one, please share…
UPDATE: No, there’s no calendar or anything showing the current date standing near it.
This morning, I heard an American woman say the following on the radio news:
Thank you America, for letting me know my skincolor doesn’t matter.
To be honest, it brought tears to my eyes. Because even though I said the election itself seemed rather primitive, the world can learn a lot from it’s result.
Barack Obama is the next American president and almost the entire world seems to be happy with that. But the task at hand is large and heavy. Bringing the changes he promised, whether they are diplomatic, economic or what have you, is something I wouldn’t want to do. He will also depend on the attitude of nations around the world: they as well wanted change and got that from the American people. Some nations and groupings are now obliged to give this man a chance and help him to make the change happen. On a sidenote, I do want to congratulate his opponent, McCain, in the way he responded when it was clear he was not going to be the next president. I do wonder where that guy has been hiding during the entire campaign, because it’s not the McCain I saw during the last couple of months (years?).
Obama, congratulations, enjoy it. And then, get to work. Good luck. You’ll need it.
